Infra red photography gallery

Post Sun Nov 07, 2004 6:58 am

Hi, I really want to improve on my IR shooting and I normally just convert to B&W, but I wanted to get some feedback from you because I feel critiques are an important way to grow, photographically.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Chris, I checked out you IR gallery and I like your pics. You seem to have some great subject matter here. The one colorized IR is very nice, I assume this was done with multiple layers? If you are looking for more colorful IR's here is a link to DPreviews Sony Talk Forum's list of IR workflows
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=7558421
i have the sony DSC-F717 and use it for IR only. I have developed my own workflow but it only works for 717 and 707 cameras.

Thank you for your kind words.
The workflow for the 828 is a tad more difficult for the 828 than the 717, but I am quite happy with it.
I will take your suggestion and look at the dpreview forum, but I prefer b&w photos, in infra red.

Thanks for looking!

chris

I think the first two are a tad on the dark side but interesting just the same. I also like the colorized version. Very nicely done. I will have to try that myself.

You must have particularly sensitive camera to IR to shoot at 1/30 of a second. I have to shoot at 1 to 2 seconds even stopped all the way open.

That's an awsome gallery Chris. Mind if I ask which IR filter you are using for the colour shot?

I've always wanted to take IR photos but without digital camera, I would hate to poke my finger through the shutter when loading IR film in complete darkness.

Cheers,
Kris

When I shoot at 1/30 it is because I am in Nightshot Mode with the Sony F828. On the F717 I would be able to do it at 1/60, but 1/30 is ok.

Thanks for posting!

Thank you for your kind words.
With my Sony F828 I use a Hoya R72 IR filter and two ND filters, 4 and 8 so it is not over exposed.
Instead of using IR film which is very sensitive to heat and light, try using b&w film with an r72 filter on a tripod. You might like your results.
Also, you can always scan them into PS and make that happen.
The color shot was done with PS, just added a layer mask to seperate the blue and the monochrome. I am currently working on a more "real life" photo of it giving it a more natural color tone instead of the over powering blue.

Thanks for stopping by!
