Hi all,
I recently started shooting 4x5 landscapes, here is one from a formation called the wave. Comments welcome.

A great capture though I think you could have posted it a little bigger for us... even 640x480 perhaps? If you shot in 4x5 it seems a shame to have it so small :)

When posting in the forums it is considered good net etiquette to keep the pictures to small or medium resolution. This keeps the load time down, especially when you end up with others that post back to show there pictures.

The original is nice and big and be gotten from http://www.pbase.com/professor_chaos/im ... 7/original

Oh, and by the way, a great shot professor...

That'd be a great photo for geography textbooks. Although colour photos would be preferred.
Nice shot.

Thanks Eric.

The decision to use black and white was a deliberate one, made for a variety of reasons. First I just plain like black and white for both its visual qualities and because I love the darkroom. Second, I think color to often detracts from the form I want to present. Still. all and all, medium is a matter of preference. Thanks again for the visit and the comment.

I really like the composition of this shot. I've seen a pile of photos of the wave. Your photo shows me a perspective that I haven't seen before. It must have been a challenge getting the correct light for this photo. I noticed both the sky and the rocks are the correct exposure. It is difficult to make that work out when working in a tight canyon. Most photographers only show the rock and leave out the sky. I think it's because they can't get the exposure to work out. You did a great job!

Oops, sorry, but that is not what I meant.

I do like black & white photos as well, as I believe it leaves more to the viewers.
But I was suggesting that a coloured version would be nice for geography textbooks. I was thinking about that because I am a geography student, and frankly there are not enough quality photos in textbooks, it would be great if photos like yours are in them.

I used a special technique in getting that exposure that way I happened to go on an over cast day  . And I also burned in the sky a tad when making the print. I have to say that photographing the wave was great fun and Im sure a person could spend several days finding lots to shoot even though the wave itsself is a fairly small area. Thanks for your kind words :D .

It's never overcast at the wave :D . Good timing.
