night time shots...

HELP!

http://www.pbase.com/krismillerl/nightdisasters

Composition and makeshift tripod aside, where did I go wrong with these shots? How does one get a good moon shot? (I'm new to SLR photography) I tried four combinations of aperture/shutterspeed... the ones with good exposure on the scenery make the moon look like the sun... so I used faster shutter speeds, but even with the fastest shutter speed, I just lost detail on the scenery and still got no detail in the moon... exif data is all there...

the other question is, how does one get rid of lens flare? I didn't realize moon shots would give you lens flare...

my first advice is shooting at a lower ISO, say, 100.
aperture may vary according to the focal length when shooting at the moon. At 28mm I would use f11.
I also noticed you compensated +2/3. Try not to do that.
For the flare... well you should first tell what lens are you using??, but I would also suggest not to place the moon in the center of the picture and to use a lens hood. Tripod is a must of course.
Hope this helps

Guido
