This annual religious festival took place on 25 Jan 2005.
It's a spectacular event where devotees fulfil their vows made to Lord Subramaniam as a thanksgiving or penance. This ritual involves carrying a "kavadi" on a 3 kilometre street procession. Male devotees usually have their tongues, cheeks and foreheads pierced. Oftentimes their chests and backs are also riddled with hooks and chains. It is indeed a sight to behold and one that you must experience first hand if you do get the chance.
Perhaps this has whet your appetite a little, enough for you to take a peek at my latest gallery.
