Backlighting anyone?

These are all so good that I (almost) feel bad about participating in this thread. I shot this handheld and with no flash but I can see I need some sort of faint fill light on the flower. The flash seems to give me harsh shadows; maybe a relector would be nice to use. I used one small halogen desklamp for the light source. I had to quit though because the cat was being too "helpful".

I liked the blue light spilling from the vase but perhaps it appears too cluttered.
