I like this picture in particular, but I'm curious to hear other opinions? Am I biased because it brings back a very beautiful day?

Image

thank you,

IMO it's a nice enough scene but the blown out (correct term?) cloud in the middle and lens flare put me off of really looking at the detail in the rest of it. You have some really nice images in your galleries.

I would agree with Nick on the center white cloud. My eye is drawn right there and there is not structure or detail in the cloud.--Rene

actually, the picture was taken agasint the sun which as shining strongly behind the cloude. hence the blown highlights and flare. but I agree that probably no flare / no blown highlights would have been preferred.

Yes the flare is rather extreme... and the bright spot in the clouds does draw your attention..

Did you have a lenshood On?

And do you have netural density filters?

Best Regards

I had a sigma 15-30 with lense hood but no neutral graduated filter. Thanks for your comment.

As noted, the sun is somewhat blown out, but the image can be improved. The flare can be corrected in post processing (clone, etc.). The dynamic range is very high in this shot, in excess of the sensors capabilities. We can not always capture an image that has wide dynamic range and keep the range within the system’s capabilities, yet we want to capture the image. I think some blow out is OK. I suggest you correct the flare and go for it, this is a fine image.

You could use photoshop to create a Graduated Neutral Density Filter. Since you probably only want to darken the sky you can use a gradient mask and only apply the filter to the upper part of the image.

Never mind. I don't think it will work. There is no information in the break in the clouds. Probably the suggestion to clone out the flare and live with the sky is the best idea.--Rene
