Post Wed Oct 29, 2003 9:11 pm

This morning I joined an Israeli army patrol along the Israel Security fence.

Your comments are most welcome:

Unbelievable. So much effort and expense because man can't learn to live next to his neighbors. So much NEEDLESS death and hatred. Walls won't solve the problem...only basic respect for other humans will. Too bad that's missing in this place, on both sides of the battle.

Thanks for posting these thought-provoking images.

Hi,

Good work about what you've done on the conflict! I was just wondering what equipment you're using?

Thanks

wow...I hate this too be my first post but...

you are just supporting a death machine! Your wall is just a wall of occupation, death and racism.

thats a very lovely picture...but what about the destruction of 83,000 olive and other fruit tree's? in the villiage of ma'asha alone 1,375 of 1,500 acres of farm land will now be beyond the wall!

Im sorry but think about the consiquences of your actions.

Equipment and truth

Post Fri Oct 31, 2003 3:36 am

About equipment:

Good old Elan 2 E.
Most of the wall+fence photos were taken with Tokina 20-35/2.8.
Few were taken with canon 70-200/4.
Only the patrol photos (all of them) were taeken with canon 24/2.8 and canon 35/2 .

I use fill-flash a lot because of the harsh contrasty middle east sun (550Ex)

About truth etc...:

Lucky for me there is one olive tree left in the west bank and I could photo it being harvested....

And seriously: there are hundreds of thosands of tress being harvested by Palestinians all over the west bank.
There are some settlers who try to interfere with the harvest but Israelis (including the Israeli army IDF) actually protects the harvest.

Both sides accuse me of colbaorating with the other side so I must be doing something right : I report what I see.

I have been to Mas'ha for many times. Yes there are problems there which i reported on but the last time I checked they were able to cross the fence almost daily and harvest the olives in mas'ha.

You can see in my photos many people that just finished buying fresh olive oil in Mas'ha.

http://www.pbase.com/image/22679510 - many more such photos I have not posted .
Like many stories this have two or more sides.
Like many political ssues the victims are the ordinary people, the one who have very little control over the situation.

There are victims on both sides of this senseless war.
There are human being on both sides that try to make things better. (even among the soldiers)

In my work i try to show the unvarnished truth:

http://www.pbase.com/ylaop/project - an over all of the issue

http://www.pbase.com/ylaop/masha - one family suffering from the wall

http://www.pbase.com/ylaop/bomb - a suicide bombing in an Israel town that is not yet protected by the fence

http://www.pbase.com/ylaop/patrol - the intercation between the Israeli sodiers and the Palestinian farmers along the fence

this really isn't the place for political debate...and for that I apologies :)

there are many sides to the story I agree...this issue is a very hot topic and I can only hope it gets resolved peacefully.

WOW what a Gallery you have! You know it is so sad to see people acting like animals! The question is not who is to blame, the question is how do we fix the problem. A city with walls to seperate sections, is not a city but yet a prison! I feel for the life that has been lost at the cost of madness. But once again that is a great gallery to show the world, what the world is really like. If we all open our eyes to the problems of the world, only then we all can try and make a difference and make a change! Pictures like these, are the real eye openers! Thanks for posting, I personlly thank you! And you are more brave than I, to go out into hardest parts of the world to capture these images! Its time for everyone to open there eyes and hearts to the worlds problems, because this type of things can happen in any country, any city, any town, anyones backyard, at any time!
Thanks,
Joel

"Join the Israeli army patrol" is a pretty silly title - one day even you might wake up and realize that it is NOT a protection wall
