Image Locations (Georeferencing)

Post Tue Dec 12, 2006 1:23 am

(clarification by "Show the Locations", I mean on a map)

PBase please, please provide an easy, quick way to georeference images. Maybe just a box in the image info for standard coordinates--

(degrees:minutes:seconds, degree:minutes:seconds)

or by nearest city listed in one of the map browsers below.

That data could then be plotted using Google Maps, Yahoo, etc (you pick the flavor).

I've been doing some manually like this:

and it's way too time consuming.

Please, oh please.

It would be much simpler to add the location to the photo description when posted if the poster is that interested in anyone knowing where the photo was taken. There could be instances when the photographer would not wish to reveal the location and in many instances, it is just nobody's business. I would much rather pbase spend it's resources else where.

I must have explained myself poorly - you would NOT HAVE to supply a location that can be shown on the map, just like you don't have to supply a location in the "location" field now.

But if you you WANTED to, the location could be shown on a map.

Ran across this gorgeous image earlier today:

http://www.pbase.com/image/71693849

a perfect reason to be able to see where photos were taken (so I can start to plan my visit there some day ;-)

Is this an acceptable method to explain where the picture was taken? Otherwise, I think this photo is rather uninteresting.

In a way, I do this already.
On the main page of my galleries and in my Maastricht gallery I have a link to my 'guestmap': http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap/s ... .do?id=eml

It is a bit cumbersome but here you can place markers which link to any website you like, so this may also be your photos on Pbase. :D

Sometimes I put a link back in the photo description, but I don't like how this look like...

So if there is a better way, please go for it!

Thanks for bringing this up.
