Which are keepers? Which are not?

Post Mon Feb 16, 2004 5:42 pm

If i were to create a really strong portfolio for lifestyle portraiture for editorial/ advertising I would like to get down to 20 - 30 images. I am having a hard time cutting back, because I am close to my subjects. Which ones do you think I can do without? Which ones should I absolutely keep? Be critical. I would love the help. Thanks in advance!

How would you like feedback? Replies here? If so, you might want to try putting some numbers in the titles, and then including the titles in your gallery, so we could identify the pictures more easily.

azdrew- Thanks for your suggestions, I suppose I was asking a little too much from everyone.

I changed the galllery to include number titles. Great solution, maybe now I'll get a little bit of feed back! Thanks guys!

That looks a little easier for giving you some feedback here. Thanks. Getting a little late here in MST zone ... I'll try to give you some feedback tomorrow.

HI There

I've had a go at picking my 10 favourites.

Here goes:

2, 3, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 20, 32, 39

I think these are the strongest compositions and/or most natural expressions.

Hope this is useful.

Cheers, Rob Cruse.

PS I would probably add 18, 22, 30, 41 and 43 as my next favourites (but not 41 and 43 in the some portfolio).

:D Hi !

If I had to select a few images from your gallery, I'd take those :

2, 3, 18, 26 (or 22, but not both at the same time), 30, 32 (the best one).

It's not a lot  but it's so difficult to mix n&b and colour on the same page...

I'm no expert but I like 2-3-5-11-14-18-23-32-36 the most (hard to explain why) Overall it's a very nice gallery.

Maybe if you take everyones 10 best you will get enough not overlapping to get your list.

2,5,14,16,18,20,22,23,37,39

It is interesting to see the results!

Thanks all for your feed back, keep the numbers coming. This is helping soo much! If any one needs similar feedback please say the word. You guys are great for taking the time.

One more question, If you take a look at my other galleries, do you think things flow better when there is a separation between the B&w and the color? Woulld you seperate the two? How about separate candid and portraits.

Or is your best your best and it can all stand together?

2, 5, 6, 13, 14, 16, 18, 21, 25, 32, 35, 39

Some of these are exceptional, but I included all the ones I thought were your best examples to fill a portfolio. Some others had nice poses or composition but were overexposed in light areas or had focus/depth-of-field problems. Nice variety here. Keep adding more variety and tell us when you have more! :)

Ok, here are the images that have been voted on more than once.

http://www.pbase.com/tarable/sifting_through_the_best

By the number of votes on certain images I can definetly tell which are keepers. Thank you for your help once again. This has been a very interesting exercise for me.

Please keep voting from the original gallery. I will keep updating, the other gallery from those results. The more votes the better idea I wiill have on which images to throw out.
