Five Bucks well spent I say. I am going to have to give this method some serious consideration. Alththough, we have so many here without domicile it could get costly!

I spotted this homeless man and he wanted a couple of dollars and I said OK if I can take a photo of you. He said OK.
Said his name was Cecil.

Reportage or exploitation? Portraiture or caricature??? Man, you're gonna get yourself into a serious ethical dilemma if you start paying people to pose.

Help me out here Wayne. It is okay to pay a model to pose; but, not okay to pay someone on the street to pose. Is that what you are saying?

Or are you just pointing out that paying for a photo makes it a non-candid photo?

Or????

I don't pay the animals at the zoo or the flowers. Just curious. :D

You know if you are trying to exploit someone or not, don't worry about what other people think.

I don't think it is wrong to give someone charity for a picture unless they don't want it and you try to coerce them or something.

Having said that, I would prefer candid photos of homeless life in order to further peoples understanding of it and effect social change. Posed photos are fine but when someone stands for the camera they are not usually being themselves.

As for charity, doesn't it feel better when only you and the person you help know about it?

They are fine images, Abdul. I cannot see any difficulty in giving him money or food. Any act of kindness is OK with me. And it does get you a good pic! I take a great deal of homeless folk and my latest, a somewhat abstract look turned to sepia with high contrast is this.

Not everyone's taste but I like it. There are more shots in http://www.pbase.com/sheila/candids plus more in my monochrome gallery at http://www.pbase.com/sheila/bw
