REMARKABLE LAYOUTS

Post Thu May 20, 2004 1:09 am

Why not showing here some layouts that can inspire others to improve the reprensentation of their photos.
I know a lot of people are working hard on their layouts and they are glad to help others,
even by personal mailing (not everything is shown in the public forums).

It would be pleasant to show someone elses layout here since yours can be visited with the link below
and you would give someone else the chance to get in the spotlights.

I'll give you one for starters of someone who recently joined as a pbase supporter and has already a very personal approach in his layout :

I think mine looks kinda cool, too. I have had a few compliments on it. It is an adaptiation of one of the provided css sheets.

"Someone else" layout

Post Sun May 23, 2004 8:56 pm

In the "someone else" layout I would say (without a doubt) that http://www.pbase.com/webdev is one of the greatest. It is a very special concept...

now that's good... well, clever that is. the way the marquee goes under the vertical bar is clever, even tho i hate marquee... :)

True about marquee - I too have reservations against something constantly scrolling by default. Hence, I decided to implement it the other way - it will scroll only if you have your mouse on the news

Ofcourse, these are all very subjective opinions.

agreed Arjun. It does look V impressive, despite my misgivings. still working out how they got it to go behind the vertical shape..

Its pretty simple really. There is a concept called "z-index" that defines which elements are positioned in front/back of others. In this case, the flag class seems to be the only positioned element, one does not need to specifically specify a z-index: it will automatically sit as the topmost element. The 'flag' class wraps around the vertical image that you see.

in this case it is a positioning 'absolute', putting itself over everything not absolute
with 2 absolutes u can indeed use the z positioning
fun:
try once filter rotation=1 with absolute (works for immages, pitty text is probably slightly scrambled to use it with a marquee)
PS a not emphasized marquee running only once is still less disturbing then text .... text .... and text .... sorry folks no room left for photos ....
No ?
