This photo was taken at a protest at the death of Kebba Jobe, a Gambian man who died on 22nd May 04 while being arrested by the police for suspicion of dealing cannabis. Kebba's cousin had died in police custody several years previously.
Kebba's arrest was witness by many people who were present on the protest march.
In this picture the woman with the mic (who had herself lost a loved one to a death in police custody) was furious and was demanding to know why the policeman was laughing as people voiced their concerns about these and other deaths in police custody.
As she confronted him the man standing next to me tried to attack the policeman (you can see his hand on the policeman's shoulder). You can also see people in the crowd pointing at the man who was attacking the policeman. A moment later people rushed forward and prevented the attack. The protesters were very angry but wanted the protest to be non violent.
