How do you process your images for uploading?

I shoot with a Canon Rebel SLR. I process the film as negs & place the images on CD. Ea. image has about 2.5-7 MB file size. Until now, I've been converting these image files into jpgs using Paint Shop Pro. Even w. jpg compression set to 1 (the lowest) the images invariably reduce to about 1-1.5 MB.

Do you find this level of loss acceptable in terms of the effect it will have on the uploaded image as it displays in pbase? I wonder how you process your images in preparing them for uploading to pbase? Would you suggest that I process differently?

Try resizing it to 600x400 for starters

size should be around 40 to 90 kb...

well I shrink em down with ifranview or acdsee to about 700 wide max, them zip em and upload. but then i'm in China at the moment so its all about getting em on with min fuss. so I use whatevers on the net cafe or down load ifranview

I'm not too fussed about the quality they're just for people to see while i'm away.

I convert my 10D RAW files in Photoshop saving the processed images first as TIFF files, then resize to 800x600 and save as sRGB profile JPEGs around the 150kb size, using "save as..." in Photoshop rather than "save for web" -- the former preserves EXIF data while the latter destroys it. Then I zip for uploading to PBase.
