French guy in Pbase

Post Mon Sep 27, 2004 3:58 pm

Hi,
I've just created my own gallery in pbase. I'm living in France, in Western France exactly, in a part called Bretagne. In my gallery, I propose 139 pictures about many themes, all of theme taken in France.
My conception of photography is not artistic - I just wish to show the true beauty of our World. I hope you'll enjoy my small part of this World!

My other interest is in the sky photography, especially in astronomy. My main gallery deals with those subjects.

Thank you for your interest in my work!

Are you French or just living in France?

Hi Midnitejam,
I am French. Is my English correct enough so that you can think I'm English or American?
What do you think about my gallery?

I checked out your gallery and I found them to be nice, well composed shots. What program do you use for post image processing? The one thing I noticed about your pictures is that they tend to be on the soft side as far as color, clarity and contrast are concerned. They seem to have a very dreamy quality to them which is preferred by many. I, on the other hand, prefer bold, vibrant pictures that leap off the screen, so I tend to turn up the color saturation as well as using the Unsharpen Mask on a number of them as well.

Maybe it is my camera, maybe it is the photographer, but I can always find something to tweak in any pictures I take.

If you have some time check out my gallery and you will see what I mean.

I use Paint Shop Pro, V9 and I love it.

PS. Your English is fine and a whole lot better than by French.

Hi bobt54, erichmangl, ckuhn55,
thank you for your comments.

- bobt54: If I understand you, you prefer sharp pictures with strong contrast, and colors. This is not my favorites settings! I prefere soft photos, because of the dreamy effect they produce.
For post precessing, I use Photoshop, but generally, I only use framing and Level (CTRL + L) for brightness/contrast and white balance (if necessary). Sometime, I use NeatImage for noise reduction.
I never use montage, because my aim is to show the reality. "Welcome to the real world".

- erichmangl: thank you! I'm not able to give an opinion on bobt54 English.

- ckuhn55: You too, I 'll prefer my pictures sharpen. I think it's an American liking. I've ever notice that in astronomy pictures. Americans do sharp pictures (with very detached stars) when Frenchmen prefere soft pictures (with stars "fuse" in the nebulae), less "agressive" (I'm not sure it's the good word).

Nice galleries guys. Congratulation.

Hi Bob, You and I have much in common as far as our preferences are concerned. I also prefer bold, vibrant pictures that leap off the screen and I also can always find something to tweak in any pictures I take. But your galleries are superior to mine.

I especially enjoyed your Red Rock Canion gallery--it is superb.
