Thanks, Bill. That sunset with gull on post is great...so simple and neat and colorful...got my vote! Thanks for introducing me to Terry's gallery. I looked at some more pics and voted for this one too:

And this is unusual, a fall picture in sepia, not color! But it works for me!

Amanda, that's fine in this case...great pic, Jeff!

And thanks for the link to Dick's nature galleries. I also found these two great pics there:

This is a gorgeous bird photo...just love it!

Isn't this little guy the cutest ever? And it's an excellent photo as well.

Phyllis, maybe enough with the soliciting of users to your site? This is the second thread I go into today where you are asking people to go to your sites and enter into forum discussions that just as easily can be done on this site. Kinda pathetic actions - and rude to the site owner here as well.

Sorry, I didn't realize that was "wrong." I figure the more exposure for one's gallery and pics the better. A lot of folks here actually ask me to use their photos for art challenges on my site, since I include a link to their pbase gallery when I do that. A lot of people have enjoyed the extra exposure. So I thought of this as presenting a nice opportunity, not as competition for this forum. Gosh no! I certainly have time to do both, and like having two forums...the more the merrier is my take on it.

But since you obviously don't see it that way and feel it's not right, I have deleted the thread link. I don't want to offend anyone.

Back to the topic, here's a wonderful landscape that really illustrates the qualities of a great photo...lighting, color, composition, mood...etc.

Terri, sorry but I'm inclined to disagree with you. There is a little spice and magic at every forum I visit and many friends tell me the same. I've learned alot from Phyllis site, as young as it is and am glad I learned about it here and from a friend. I also participate in other forums too, and so do many of my friends. Most of us belong to 3 or more and share the same photos and work on all of them. I'm always relunctant to enter another forum because I spend too much time on the computer as is, but once I step foot inside I'm usually hooked as everyone of them has something to teach me. Many of Phyllis participants and contributors have accounts here at pbase and I know more come to pbase for photo hosting because of her too. I really don't think she's hurting anyone and may even be helping to sell this site.

Now onto the top at hand;

I came across this great gallery of images from a service man today and I think it deserves a look see;

Yes, it is, Phoenikz! It's been desaturated and accent-colored with Photoshop, but that doesn't really matter. Digital photography and retouching are changing photography forever...may as well accept it. Besides, it got my vote on composition alone!

And don't miss ac's small fish gallery. I never thought I'd want to see another fish pic again ;) but some of his are really good, IMO.

Here's a great shot in b/w by warno that got my vote. You gotta love this one! I don't think it would have been nearly as effective without that sweater, though. Sometimes luck is on your side and it all comes together beautifully.
