I know you weren't asking me but I find this remarkable! Can you tell me from what flora you captured these? One looks like either a carnation or a blossom from a Rose of Sharon (Clematis) but I am not sure which.

Nice captures!

what i think about today's most popular photo

Post Thu Dec 01, 2005 9:19 am

Personally, I found it extremely distasteful that I stopped viewing the popular photos because of it. I don't want to impose my taste on others, so it would be nice if one has the option to not see particular photos again.

Bob:

The human body is the ultimate expresion of nature's beauty. It is a shame we have grown to hide it.
I liked the picture but mostly I loved the idea. I think I would have tried several other shots, specially some in which it would not look so protruded. I understand you actually did this by asking your wife to raise her hip to get this effect. I am wondering how it would look if it would look less prominent. I think some members were intrigued by this fact!!
Otherwise i think the image and idea are a work of art.
Congratulation.
By the way: do not bother by those people that do not understand this type of "art"....they are too retro-conservatives and ignorant in this regard and would never understand this type of art.

Thanks! They are both roses, one pink, one peach. I cheated on one of them and altered the color, making it more of a skin tone. It is a close up of this rose (this is its natural color): Image

Both were part of a triptych that was in an erotic art show earlier this year.

You have a keen eye, Michelle. Those are excellent pictures, and very clever. Well done!

Is this thread meant to crucify the author for being popular, to blame the public for making it popular, or to blame the website for allowing it to be there?

Either way, erotic photography has always been popular, and as the voting system is the measure of popularity and not quality or anyone's moral standards, so what's the issue? Don't like, don't look, there are plenty of of nude images on pbase so if one is worried about their children seeing nude photos, make sure that they are not in the room with you and preferably in their own rooms playing "mass murderer 5" on their playstation, or whatever the hot game is these days.

As for the photo itself, don't really care for it, but good for you for being able to enjoy this hobby together with your wife, and for being creative to the point where not only your image is the most popular but also a topic of a heated discussion.

Hey, this is PBase and sometimes nudity shows up here. If you are offended by this then please, by all means, go away.

We all hate something. Don't impose your dislikes on others; they already have there own. You can't expect everyone to share yours. Some of your most prized likes are others greatest dislikes. Live and let be.

At the end of the day it is just a figure study approaching the abstract. It doesn't make a statement or depict an action or suggest a behavior. It is not particularly graphic. It is little different than a picture of a rock.

I guess I wouldn't expect a picture of a rock to be the most popular. Maybe that was the point of the post? If the point is that there were many other good pictures during the period and that some may have been more worthy perhaps that is true. I'd start by voting for them if that is the point.

Why do you think I am offended by it? I haven't made a statement one way or the other in this thread.

I based that on how involved you became in seeming to combat this photo both here and in the comment section of the photo itself. Today, I looked back as several of the most popular photos over the last many days and found what? Many photos of nude or semi-nude women. Did you complain then or is it just this parituclar aspect of the female form that offends you?

And I like what Erich said in the comment section regarding your fear of having been caught looking at THIS photo while at work when the issue really would have been, "why aren't you working while at work....?"

Grow up people, it's just nudity! You peeps are too easily offended. Animals walk around nude on the streets all day and no one says anything. It's how God made us. It's only obscene if in your mind you want it to be. It's not like she has her fingers down there playing, or something is being shoved up in her, or "something white" is all over it.

I completely agree with ethicalheretic. Which would you rather have your children see on TV? People walking around in the nude (I'm not talking about porno), or people getting blown up to bits and bleeding a horrible death while screaming?

Michelle, did you even read what I had posted? Just because I had a problem with it you assume that I was offended by it. Others assume I have a problem with the female form. Still others think I have some sort of "agenda" to remove all adult material from Pbase. Re-read it. I have posted it below.

As for the other comment by Erich, Have you ever heard of a lunch break???

And as far as why I started this thread in the first place, it was to open a dialog on the issue. I asked two questions. I voiced my opinion by commenting on Rays photo in his gallery and this is now "Combat"??? I think we are being a little over dramatic here.

I really liked this shot all the way up to the point where 15 (and counting) people voted for it. It has now come out of your gallery which had all the appropriate warnings and has made it front and center in Pbase's popular photos page where no one gets a warning. The "Don't Look" rationale no longer applies here. It's courageous. It's erotic, but now it is about to become a problem, I fear. I trust you and/or Slug will deal with it in a responsible way that will appeal to all here at Pbase

Then how many of you think this is appropriate for children to see? Should we not also be sensitive to those who choose not to see or choose not for their children to see such material? My problem is not with the subject matter but instead in where it is displayed. When it was originally posted in this gallery, the gallery had a warning on it. Those who entered, did so knowing that there would be nudity. I have no problem with that. No such warning was given to all who simply wanted to see the most popular photos. I would like to see something similar to the treatment of American Politics applied to this type of material when it becomes popular. Everyone should have a choice here. It is the only way to be fair to everyone here at Pbase.

Ray, first I didn't vote for it. I came upon it only today and only after going to the popular photos page. I was surprised to see it and was glad I was at home and not at work when I did. I now must be more careful when viewing anything on Pbase and that is a shame. Had someone at work seen that on my computer, I could have been fired. I have no problem with viewing adult material but I do it in the privacy of my own home in the time and place of my choosing. I did not get a choice nor did hundreds of other people today
