I am not very computor savvy so i dont know how to make my own interface. I think the webdev or whatever its called looks ok. simple. not overdone. no bright colors to get in the way.
But thats ok, you dont need to force yourself to throw votes my way :P ...i am new here and i have never shown my work to anyone really before, so i just throw the link up at whatever chance i get.lol
cheers

Oh...no forcing myself here. Anything to knock some of the crud on the seven day list down a notch or two would be good. I'll go vote for your portfolio, that one caught my eye the other day. Hopefully you will cast a vote and a couple of others too and we will see that gallery on the pop galleries lsit tomorrow or the next day. :)

Heading to your site to vote now.

Good luck.

I think one of the best ways to find out if a gallery is legitimately in the Popular Galleries is to see how many folk have posted comments in that gallery. You also have to look at what "Popular" means. Does it mean that the images are excellent photographically and artistically, or is it family oriented - your mum, dad and aunts and uncles love those Christmas snaps etc etc and hence vote for the gallery.

If and when the Popular Images comes in, I think a few rules would have to be enforced such as the images must earn a whole wad of votes before they get to the list - not just two or three. And I suggest that only PBasers would be able to vote for the images. That would at least stop the "aunts and uncles" vote!

Just my two cents.
Cheers and Happy New Year

Voting

Post Tue Dec 30, 2003 11:12 pm

Wow. It's fun to vote, to show appreciation for what someone out there considers their own little piece of art. They took the time to show it, so if I happen to like it I'll show it.

Slug says only paid members votes count.

Excellent stuff Shiela....you can also click on those commenters names to gauge for yourself how telling those comments are according to the quality of the work they have posted in there galleries.

If and when the Popular Images comes in, I think a few rules would have to be enforced such as the images must earn a whole wad of votes before they get to the list - not just two or three.

Great stuff here as well. I agree, the 7day list is far, far to long right now and measures should be taken to trim it at accordingly. Maye slug will see this or we can send him a note.

Anyway, great input and Happy New Year to you. I once had the pleasure of celebrating the new year in Austrailia. it was a fun time.

Cheers

Sheila,

I think you have to be a member to vote. I know I can't vote unless I am logged in. Oh, do you mean paying member? Hmmmm, that makes sense to me. :D

I am not sure bumping up the number of required votes would accomplish what we are after. What about those folks that get "honest" votes that don't have a big "fan" club or don't spend an inordinate amount of time or effort on garnering gallery visits and votes?

It seems to me that any system will have its imperfections; or, be too complicated to implement. But what do I know?

Amelia, the reason Chuck and some others don't like Webdev is that on some browsers it darkens all the pics except the one you pass the mouse over, so you can't see the thumbs. This can be fixed very easily by one little change in the html, which is easy for you to do yourself. There is a thread here somewhere on this very topic. Can anyone recall where this is and post the link for Amelia?

that would be very helpful thank you. i did see that to be a disadvantage however just chalked it up to people clicking on the large photo if they wanted to see. but prehaps i should chnage that.
if anyone has the link i would be grateful

On second though, if all you need is to turn it off in your style sheet, just go through your CSS and remove any reference to either "filter:alpha(opacity=xx)" or "-moz-opacity:0.xx". Ofcourse, keep a backup copy incase things screw up and you need to revert back to the original

I think webdev looks the most professional by far of the prepackaged sheets. Some people just do not like it though. :(

Mines a bit of a mixture (mostly Mike Kelly's - plus a few colour changes of my own). I found webdev much too dark too but as Don said, its a lot more professional looking than basic black!

Amelia, I'm using the same style sheet you switched to, Karen's. I just changed the background color and the color of links etc. I like this one because it's neat and simple and doesn't distract the eye from the pics.

Personally, I find galleries on a black background hard to look at due to the high contrast. Maybe that's just because my eyes are getting old, like the rest of me. :)
