There is an old saying about photographers. An amature takes a lot of photos and shows them all. A professional takes a lot of photos and only shows the good ones. :D

I don't mean to imply anyone here, including myself, is one or the other, just repeating an old saying.

do you know how many times I have seen you say that Chuck? I just read that same quote from you over at innographix not long ago.

and

I like to find the good photographers in these popular galleries lists.

http://www.pbase.com/galleries?view=popular&period=90

http://www.pbase.com/galleries?view=popular&period=all

http://www.pbase.com/galleries?view=popular&period=7

Here, let me teach you a new saying here at pbase I made up.

I judge good photographers by the amount of popular galleries they place high up on the popular galleries lists.

Maybe not the right place ot discusse this --- but, since I have gotten the Rebel this is something I have struggled with. I have learned to start really looking at my pictures, thinking about them and then trying to pick what I like.

So I guess this thread does make one stop and think.... "what is my best/favorite" ?

My two cents' worth. I like this rule, as it forces you to be more selective. Though the downside is that you might have two really good images and you're forced to show only one. That said, if people really like your stuff they'll go visit your homepage/galleries.

Anyway, your thread, your rules. If you don't feel comfortable with that, open your own thread and have your own rules, I say. This isn't intended to be a forum rule, though I must admit it does save on bandwidth.

One thing I disagree with is Don's "show more, tell less" view (and hey, Don, it's not an attack on you, it's just my opinion). This is a perfect opportunity for photographers to share with their peers what was going on, or just a little context of the images they choose to show. As it is there are so many galleries on PBase, and so few of them annotated properly, that it's refreshing to have an insight to go with the image.

Here's my boat photo. It was taken in Hong Kong, where I currently live. Causeway Bay is one of the typhoon shelters here - ostensibly somewhere for boats to seek refuge when the winds and waves get destructive (usually Aug-Nov). What has happened is that it seems also to now be somewhere for people to store their dreck. It's an incongruous scene - flotsam in the foreground, with a cosmopolitan skyline (of Kowloon) in the background.

I agree, and chuck should not demand someone to look through 50000 pics to find a pic to post. Like he is ansel adams or something.  :!:

Don, Srijith was talking about the post wars. Not about annotating images.

I rather think you might be taking all this a little bit too personally. He's not demanding anything of you, Don. If you don't like it, don't post. Or start your own thread. Chill.
