Deserving of a Vote

OK by me. I realize that you have paid for your membership while I am just a newcomer evaluating this website. Sorry if I didn't know the rules, whether written or just commonly understood.

One criterion I'll use in deciding whether to join is whether there are good photos here so I can learn by example. Obviously there are and I posted some links, in the spirit of fun, which demonstrate that.

Another criterion is finding a fun and welcoming environment. There are lots of photo oriented websites one can join, however, many are dominated by snobish cliques or self-professed experts who ridicule newbies or simply ignore them. I'm not interested in paying for that!

For now I'll just read and not post and make my decisions based on observation.

welcome to pbase, you will like it once you pay the money. This is primarily a photostorage site, not an on-line community. These threads are to promote yourself. Threads like this one are highly unusual and are 1/1000'ths or so of the total threads here at pbase.

There is much knowledge and many great pix at pbase. Cruise some of the topics of the week and some others. You will see some great stuff from some great artists advertising there own pix.

that is really the point of the show and tell forum

it is generally not good business to spend your time freely promoting others. Just a little something I learned in pre-biz school

Phil Douglis offers a lot of great help in his galleries to people who want to improve their photographic skills; he is also an excellent photographer who travels worldwide to shoot new images.

This image shows motion blur -- towards the photographer... Great shot and deserving of votes.

CJ, quite a scary tiger tale, if you ask me! Even on an elephant...scary enough in itself! I am so glad we have these talented world travelers here to share their great pics of faraway places and strange looking things, because I am far too chicken to venture into some of the places they've gone.

I didn't know this either so I looked around a bit to figure it out -- Go to the popular Galleries page -- you will see the word "Photos" to the right of the words Popular Galleries -- click on the word "Photos", and it will show the popular single images instead of the popular galleries. The number of votes for each image will be listed in parentheses after the title of the photo.

slug just started advertising the popular vote link a few weeks ago, this popular photos list means absolutely nothing and won't for quite sometime.

the galleries list has been advertised and voted for a long time and that main popular gallery page gets like 60,000 views per day. Popular galleries is the place to be. This popular photo list won't be any good for probably 6 months to a year. Time tested good stuff is in the popular galleries lists.

the pbase home page is also linked to the 90day popular galleries. Want to get to pbase front page??? Get yourself a popular GALLERY on the 90day list and you are there.
