Started looking through the forums because the upload's not working.
Glad I did. Discovering an unknown is a great idea.
I'm dial-up and don't get to view as many ports as I'd like but there are so many wonderful photographers on this site. Good luck to all.

Hey, I just realized that this is my first post. So......even though I've been here for two years (yes, I'm sort of low key; I blame it on dial-up!!), I'd like to say "Hello".

Also, I'd like to nominate myself.
 I can't believe I just did that.

I dont know if you would call me discovered or undiscovered
I seem to get a lot of hits, I just recently topped 200,000 since I joined a year ago. Are the hits from non members of PBase actually being counted in the 200,000?
I'm thinking yes?

since this was one of the initial requirements, perhaps the once who nominated themselves could state why is their photography inspiring.

What the heck? I'll nominate myself.

But one of the artists whose work that I thouroughly enjoy viewing is Craig Persel. I especially enjoy his black and white work.

Well, I missed that requirement when I first viewed this thread.
I will withdraw my nomination for myself as it's not for me to say how or if others are inspired by my photography. Again, good luck to everyone! ...now back to your regular scheduled program and I will remain anonymous for another two years. :)

Another vote from me for Oliver Dienst - can't believe a photographer of his quality is below 200,000 hits - top quality traditional B&W documentary photography. I'm a big fan of Craig Persel too but given the amount of votes and comments he gets I'm not sure he cournts as "unrecognised"!

I did not read that I had to write something as to why I think the ones I choose are underrated, also that I am supposed to only choose one but I like breaking the rules and I will pick two. Ser gets a lot of hits but is always a favourite of mine and so is Kal, along with Norman and Pablo. They are all pretty well known and have a lot of front page hit. So I will whittle it down.

Here ya go:
http://www.pbase.com/raulcosta/root&view=recent

Raul Costa has been a favourite of mine since joining Pbase. Why? The easy answer is to just look at his work but looking does not cover it. You have to see. You have to look beyond just what he shows you and see everything in the photo. He calls himself a simple amateur but he has the eye for photography. His portrait work is amazing.

Fred il’s work I have been following for a few months now and he never fails to bore me. He is always doing something different and something new in his work but never going over the line in to the absurd. Inventive would be one way to describe his work, another would be wonderful.

Each one I listed makes the viewer think when looking at their work, either technically or subjectively and what they choose to photograph. Each one has technicality in their photographs, this goes for Norman, Pablo, Ser, Kal as well, but their work goes well past technicality. They show humanity brilliantly.

Best,
duncan

I'd have to nominate Brinn MacDougall for his amazing still life shots, his other work is impressive too, but his eye for color and design really shines in the still life gallery. Hard to believe he has only just over 60k hits.

I'd like to nominate Steve Vucko.

Under 36,000 hits. Incredibly versitile, great eye for color, form, composition. The guy is the real deal.

And the nominations are...

Because the inspiration comes from with in, from my father who lived his life with and through photography until he recently passed away at age 65... With out him I would have never picked up a camera, a paint brush or a piece of chalk...

ANd while I look and search it's hard to find a hidden gem... All of my favorites have well over 200000 and the others I enjoy have not been here a year.. Now it makes me wonder why I don't have liek 2,387,826 hits yet...

I would be happy to second this choice.
Having only just recently become more involved in promoting my own pictures through Pbase I was humbled with the first genuine comment on my own galleries from Brinn, and sought out his pictures in response.

I like the way he looks the world around him, and his genuine love of the craft that makes photographic images work.
Thanks Brinn for your manner and interest and good luck in all that you do.
