Need opinion on frames and background!

Post Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:50 am

Hello all,
I am considering to completely change the style of my galleries.

It took long time to make the frames around my pictures and now I am not sure I like it anymore, maybe I am only tired of it... don't know!

So I need some feedback, please check out my site and tell me what do you think about the frames and the background.

The new style I have in mind is more simple: just a little white border with a shadow on a white or medium gray background.

So.. should I leave it as it is or I'd better change it?
Thank you in advance for giving me your precious opinion

honestly speaking, your current frames are too much IMHO. I'd go for a more simple frame (I wouldn't even add shadows).

that's my personal taste but I guess that's what you're looking for

I really like your galleries the way they are, especially the colour scheme, but I know what it's like when you get bored with the look of your own galleries.

Maybe you could experiment next time you create a new gallery, and see how you like it? It looks like a huge job to change all your existing images.

I like the look of the frames. It makes your pictures look like paintings.
Seems you've put in a lot of work to your galleries. Well done.

Frames or Not

Post Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:45 pm

I would go with Larena's suggestion. Try a gallery, perhaps something with not too many images and try them with just white borders or some matting, but NO frame. I think you might want this look to match well with the subject matter of this new gallery.

I took a photo class once and the teacher said the photograph will talk to you and tell you what size it wants to be. Not all should be large or small. Perhaps your images will tell you how they want to be presented.--Rene

Framing

I am feeling the same way about my presentation, I do not use frames I just simply create a shodow effect but I am bored and wish I could know of a tool to get the frames you show with your pictures. My suggestion is: on your future galleries try looking at other peoples presentations and settle for something that impress you.

That class doesn't sound as if it'd be too much help to the untrained eye.

Anyway I'm not a great fan of overloaded, hypertextured frames. I typically find them rather cheesy and more than often as if one had pretentions to being displayed as would a Goya or Rembrandt (not you, alekhine...I'm referring to those with ridiculously frilly, suprornamental frames). In this case I think the concept of framing compliments the photos well vs. the busy background, but should consist of a simple white border and little more.

Framing and Presenting Photos

Check out this gallery. Notice how the images are presented in many different way. I think the presentation (frame, matting, etc.) is in harmony with the image. See what you think. I guess that is why I think it may not be best to have only one style of matting, framing, or finishing of an image. BTW, this is not my gallery. I am usually to lazy to worry about the frames.
