Happy But Stupid Winner

First the good news. I discovered today that three of the photos from my photography galleries here on PBase recently won Photo of the Day at shutterbugs.biz. These are the winners:

12/20: http://www.pbase.com/image/23436970 from Critters gallery

If you look at the archives, you can see that the first one ALSO won on 12/19, and that is NOT supposed to happen! This is where the "stupid" part comes in. I am new to that site, and each time I went to upload a new set of pics, I looked at their list of my "current uploads" and chose one from my files that did not appear there (not uploaded yet or failed to upload right or got deleted accidentally...I didn't know why the list didn't match my own list of "already uploaded" pics). So that's how I ended up sending in that scenic winner twice.

I wrote to them just now and asked them to award one of those days to someone else...surprised that they didn't notice it won twice. Odd. Oh, well, maybe I wasn't so much stupid as I was unaware that they DELETE the image from your list of pics already uploaded when one of them wins. This is not mentioned in the directions. But I really should have been looking at the daily winners before uploading new pics...it just never occurred to me that I'd be a winner so I never checked! I was just in a hurry to get some pics uploaded...one track mind here.

Anyway, I will try to forget how dumb I was and try to concentrate on being happy that folks liked my photos enough to pick them as winners.

That is the correct URL. The site must be down right now (I just checked). Perhaps a sore loser ran amuck.

The site is up now. One day I couldn't upload any pics and got a failure message, but that's the only problem I've seen. However I just started going a couple of weeks ago, so I don't have that much experience with it.

I do know that they do read their mail quickly and take care of problems as they occur. I see today they already removed my "double winner" scenic that I wrote to them about. They are definitely trying hard to make things run smoothly. So, if the site is not working right, just keep trying...they fix things pretty fast.

What message did you see?

It's been down now for over a day, and I can't get even a message...just my browser telling me the connection attempt failed.

Just my luck... I just started submitting pics there and now it's gone. Maybe they went out of town for the holidays and didn't want to bother with the site and folks submitting pics when they weren't there to do the POTD? Could the message you saw mean that?

Hello Fellow Shutterbugs;



Most of you are aware that Shutterbugs has been experiencing problems recently. I just learned today that the hosting company lost all of my data. Of course, I have the data backed up myself, but the effort to recreate the site is considerable. At this point, I’m not sure when we will be back up.



I appreciate all of the support and the participation from all of the wonderful photographers I have come to know through Shutterbugs. It was always the highlight of my day to see your work.
