"Searching for you" in Memory of Mum

Post Wed Jan 21, 2004 1:06 pm

This touched a special cord in me as it may for many of you. The following is an extract from "Searching for you", a poem by By Maria Ann Cahill.

Looking over the deep ocean tide,
Feeling a world vast and wide,
Catching sight of a rainbow overhead,
The seagull flies.

I wipe a spillage of tears from my eyes,
And you are there!
Are you the wind that blows my hair?
Are you the rainbow overhead?
Are you the drop of dew?
Is this essence I now feel,
Really you?

A peace grew within my heart,
A gentle breeze brushed my cheek,
I could feel you!
I knew you were there.
My heart grew warm,
I knew your love the specialness
Of you.

Searching for you,
My sweet mother,
And finding you forever,
I wanted so much,
To give you a physical cuddle.

When, my brothers,
And sister I hold,
I know I will hold you!
Your love runs through,
Yes, you are,
The wind that blows my hair,
And the rainbow overhead!

Extract from a Poem by By Maria Ann Cahill, who has kindly granted me permission for this post. Written 1996 when in Scotland, looking over the beach, just thinking of mum.

On the above link is the photo of my late Mum. At the bottom of the page there is a link to the BBC webpage where you may read more of the poetry of Maria Ann Cahill, the complete version of "Searching for you" and her heart wrenching story.

Do add any photos of your own Mums or relevant stories of Mum's special love that you may care to share. Mine was very special indeed.

Arif - wonderful poem, wonderful memories! thank you for reminding us of Mum....

rphoto - my heart felt sympathy.... thank you for sharing. This is a diificult subject... but one most of us will face at some time.

My Mom just died this past October.... we (7 children) got to see her before she left us. She wanted a picture put on the gravestone of her and our dad.. the picture was a combination of two --- one she looked good and the other dad looked good. I combined the two images so THEY both looked good.
Happy, Together, Enjoying life.... My mom and dad !

We love ya and miss ya!

Jill,

Thanks for sharing that. Very cleverly done. A great idea with the photo. They both look very good in it. I like the way he is holding her arm because there is a lot of warmth in it.

My mother passed away almost 16 years ago, also of cancer. A brain tumor in the right lobe. It was tough for all of us. The cancer was discovered while she was visiting Atlanta and she was operated on in Washington. Not much could be done and when she left us all her three children had come from different places to be with her. Through it all she never complained once.

We have fond memories and are fortunate to have had her.

Best for now.

Arif
