it used to have water flowing by..but may be caused by the lack of rains

the fire has been burning for 4-5 decades at least according to my parents.

anyone can tell me the term/name for this...
there should be gas beneath...

Very curious photographs. I'm not a good geologist, but could that rock be limestone and it's been eaten away into a little cavern by the flames and head over the decades? It could be a steady natural gas or methane vent that's lit. I suppose it could be very steady the way some water springs are steady year round.

I googled for burning cave taiwan and found that it's a natural gas vent. It's also called Shweihwo Cave or Fire and Water Cave.
