U.S. Marines and sailors take up a late afternoon game of tropical volleyball in the shallows off a beach in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. They built the court with some scrounged sections of fishing net and bamboo. After the game, village locals served up freshly caught reef fish and landcrab salad. The group was in Yap to provide medical support during Micronesia's annual sports festival. The service members were from U.S. military bases located in Okinawa, Japan, and were allowed a day off after completing their medical support mission on Yap.

During the annual sports festival in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia, a competitor makes his way up a coconut palm during one of the most popular island sports competitions, the coconut climb. Contestants must climb five 40-foot palms in a row for time. It is one of the most physically demanding of the island sports.
