This just looked to me like some kind of Hawaiian-esque Cartoon-ish detective like character, who just had his cigar blown up in his face (while the villain cruises off snickering...) type of deal.....
Interesting tree nonetheless.

The beauty of this ordinary field, which I had passed countless times before, was sufficient to cause me to pull over just to have a fuller look at it.

The plant's green leaves were easily as big as your palm, the brown leaf.... gi-normous.
