Ladies and Gentlemen,
I sincerely thank each and every one of You for sharing Your work.
Many strong entries, Beautiful Photographs, made it rather difficult, but very enjoyable for me to host this competition :)

I’m lucky there’re honorable mentions ;-) Their number is high for this contest, but considering the theme, I saw no other way.
That’s where I’ll start:

cheeky-pikins by jimcritchley

http://www.pbase.com/jimcritchley/image/74177762/original
Beautiful image, worthy of National Geographic;

Snowy Owl by Dominic Cantin

http://www.pbase.com/dominiccantin/image/94122991
I haven’t seen many photos of yawning (singing?) snow owls, have you? ;-)
There are more of these beautiful creatures in Dominic’s gallery :-)

Lighthouse by Aaron Zeitler

http://www.pbase.com/a_zeitler/image/81814524/original
Beautiful laconic composition, fantastic colors, masterfully executed with the 30s exposure;

Musical and rather Surrealistic composition by Claudia Schweizer

There’s definitely Music in this image ;-)

tired old biker by Chuck Maceda

http://www.pbase.com/chuckmaceda/image/93698959
Good composition and story makes this a strong B&W candid portrait. And taking it made the Author happy – that’s the most important thing. Thanks for sharing, Chuck.

Enjoying the water at sunset .. by Robin Lew

http://www.pbase.com/robinlew/image/96867980
Another honorable mention in the sunset category ;-)
(We seem to never get tired of the sunsets, no matter what. Sunsets are forever ;-)

Great composition and character tell a rather emotional story..

By jaac

http://www.pbase.com/jaac/image/65024461/medium
Superb, emotionally charged B&W composition.

And now the winners:

3rd place is shared by:

Jeff B.

http://www.pbase.com/wienerman/image/99300378/medium
This perfectly timed, balanced and executed on high technical level composition, set against sunset backdrop, carries a message of hope, happinness and a moment that may never repeat, but will stay with us always in this photograph.

&

Jumping by Graham Hughes aka BlindPoet

http://www.pbase.com/blindpoet/image/79136306/medium
At first this image makes an impression of an underwater shot. It’s after a few seconds of viewing comes the realization it is actually a sea diver in flight. This makes the composition somewhat surreal..

2nd Place is shared by:

Vanishing point by Malcolm Niekirk

http://www.pbase.com/niekirk/image/85996082/medium
Very strong laconic composition and lighting effect create powerful visual impact. And together with the title this is transformed in the true Work of Art.

&

Hoa Binh hydro plant! By Jean Louis Brillet

http://www.pbase.com/jlbrillet/image/84601720/medium
This compositionally perfect image reminds me of one famous lighthouse photograph, where it seems a lighthouse keeper is about to be swept away by a huge wave coming from behind, he’s not aware of. But sort of a more cheerful version of it ;-)

And Finally!

1st Place:

Life by Anerino

http://www.pbase.com/anerino/image/91907510/original
This Photograph, being compositionally and technically perfect, carries stunning visual impact, and elicits huge emotional response.
In my honest opinion, this is the strongest of all entries.

Anerino, the 95th Contest is Yours :)

Thanks,
Best Regards,

Mike Burlak

tks for the mention...

If the aim of photography is to capture a moment in time, you cannot do much better than the 1st and 2nd place pics.

:)

I am deeply honoured to have been been mentioned in despatches.

Thanks to Mike for the theme of the competition which attracted a really high calibre of entries.

Congratulations to all the winners and fellow "Honoured"s.

This is beginning to sound like an Oscars acceptance speech - so I'll stop there. :D
