It's a double edged sword of joy and dread winning this contest, because it's SOOO hard to pick a winner from all the amazing shots you post!!! I started with 30 best shots, and struggled to eliminate any of them. Your pics wisked me off to exotic and stunningly beautiful spots around the world, gave me a taste of some wild adventures, and rekindled a hankering to return to places I'd visited before. It was fun being an armchair traveler with you. Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful contributions.
Here are the honorable mentions and winners, in no particular order...
Nick Vivian got me laughing with his capture of a rather unusual tourist, casually seated and enjoying the magnificent Victoria Falls. Even the wildlife finds this view irresistable! Great catch Nick.
I don't know how, but Randall Fox relocated my armchair to sit right next to these prayer flags... and I could actually feel the cold of the place. Beautiful capture Randall!
Oh Stewart, how you tempt me to visit Scotland again... with my 5D! The beauty and diversity of the place calls my name. Although I've only posted one of your pics, they were all stunning shots. Do especially like this rocky shore... the warm light on the rocks and moods of the sea you so perfectly captured.
Frequently photographed (by me too!)... I've never seen Cathedral Rock captured more expertly than this beautiful shot by A. Keigher. The vivid colors of sunset perfectly repeat in the still waters at Red Rock Crossing. A lesson for all in taking advantage of the magic hours.
A perfect capture of the faithfully preserved seaside town of Bergen. Although I've been here (in a camper, driving down through the fjord), you make me want to take the trip all over again Juan. Such beautiful light and composition in this pretty shot.
Third Place: Kudos to Nelson, not only for his amazing capture (captures - be sure to see the rest), but also for just getting up there! What an arduous climb in freezing temperatures this must have been. Great capture of these two adventuresome climbers. If I thought I still had it in me to make the climb, I would be seriously tempted.
Second Place goes to Joe Petolino for his breathtaking capture of Mt. Bromo and Mt. Suburu erupting - Eastern Java, Indonesia. What great timing to capture all this activity. Falling ill in Bali kept me from visiting these volcanos when I was in Indonesia. You're sure tempting me to make another trip there Joe.
First Place: Congratulations to John Paskey for this magical capture in Ethiopia. Way to get up early John, to capture these amazing sunrise colors. Beautifully composed and great dof shows off the immensity and grandeur of the place. Love your description too John, and I quote... "As for Ethiopia. Wow. What a people. What a country. Gonder, Lalibela, Axum, Addis Ababa, Omo Valley, Bahir Dar... Mountains, Monuments, Culture, you name it, Ethiopia has it. Add to that some of the nicest and most interesting people I've ever met, and WOW."
Congrats to all the winners and everyone for their wonderful shots. It's all yours John!
