Posting Photos for a Contest
1. Photos must be hosted on pbase.com
2. Maximum of 3 photos per contest.
3. Photos must be embedded in your post. See the following link for how to do this http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=18022
4. Post only medium versions of your picture using the PB-Image button
5. The host is not eligible for their own contest.
6. Any picture you've taken is eligible, regardless of date taken and camera, as long as it hasn't already won another contest.
7. You can do all the post processing you want.

Winning and Running a Contest
1. If you enter the Show and Tell Contest, please note the closing date and be sure to check back to see if you won.
2. If you win the Show and Tell Contest and cannot run the next one, please notify the person running the contest immediately, so they can notify the second place winner.
3. If you decide to run the next contest, please post the new contest within 24 hours.
4. When the contest ends, please post the winners within 24-48 hours. (If you keep an eye on entries during the week, you will have a good idea of your favorites by the time the contest ends, and be able to more quickly post your winners.)
5. If you know you will not be able to post a contest, judge it, and post winners, within these timeframes, please do not start one. Instead, notify the person running the contest, so they can pass it on to the second place winner.
6. Pick first, second, and third place winners. You may include up to 5 honorable mentions.
7. Include these rules in the body of your contest.

This is a good example to illustrate my point: the title of the competition can be ambiguous to non-English speakers. I am Dutch by birth and my wife is German. In both languages, and I think in Spanish as well, there is only one word for 'shadow' and 'shade'.

In English a 'shadow' has the shape of an object blocking out the sun or the light. With a 'shadow' you can usually still see the contour of the person or thing making that shadow. The 'shade', however, has no shape, or its shape is not clearly visible. Somebody can sit in the shade, but you don't 'sit in the shadow'.

I apologize to r lima for (ab)using his pictures (especially the second one) to demonstrate what the wrong interpretation of the theme would be, based on his/her misunderstanding of the English word 'shadow', but it may be helpful for him/her and others to still be able to change their entries according to the meaning of the theme.

Greetings from Ontario, Canada :)

This photo (one in a series) was taken on one of The Galapagos Islands. As I look at this photo, my brain still screams WOW!

The Nazca Boobie was no more than 2 or 3 feet away from us. The egg had just hatched and mom had the newborn on top of her feet to protect it from the scorching sun overhead. Her feet have a thermoregulating ability to maintain the newborn's core temp.

The next photo was taken enroute to one of the Galapagos islands .... a female Magnificent Frigatebird hitched a ride on our catamaran, and posed for the 2 hour duration of the trip. These birds are usually seen in the sky looking for prey / as they cannot land on top of the water ..... they'll drown.

Is there a way we can add a rule that states:

- If an image has already won, or comes in 2nd or 3rd in a contest, it is not eligible for another contest?

This would help keep the entries fresh and force us to continue to be creative.

thanks

k

Sounds like a fine rule to me. I changed rule 6 to include this:
6. Any picture you've taken is eligible, regardless of date taken and camera, as long as it hasn't already won another contest.

At this point, it will have to be enforced by participants and host of the contest.
Sound good?

I would like to see "as long as it hasn't already placed in another contest (ie 1st, 2nd or 3rd)" instead of won.

Edit & submit for photos to show up??

Started new contest, previewed and images showed up....posted the new contest but the images did not show up just the html using PB-image button
[PB-Image]pbase image address[/PB-Image]

Images did show up when I clicked on edit button and just resubmitted it. Glitch with the automatic posting of contest?
The automated contest worked great other than that. Very easy! Thank you.
