Thank you for your wonderful entries. I had to go back and check each one again to make sure I didn't miss anything. While I was hoping someone would post the outrageous antics of people in Harbin (coldest part of China where they make ice sculptures and swim during a freezing winter in bathing trunks), your images made me smile while I made my selection. Of course, I also had to consider the composition and impact of each photo.
Honorable Mentions in no particular order (these photos made me smile a lot):
The title "Spot the Tourist" cracked me up, which goes to show how important captioning really is in leading viewers to your message. However, Nick, your color stood out as well.
It is true with most tough, muscled men. They are softies when it comes to their women
Need I say more? The expression on this statue's face goes well with his cool gesture.
However, glancing at your gallery, jlbrillet, I found a more interesting photo of the same Vietnamese woman pouring the liquor from the Pepsi bottle visibly in view.
THIRD PLACE
Would love to see the outrageous decors of car owners in this Art Car Festival in real life.
SECOND PLACE
At first glance I thought it was the tallest Maasai warrior, then saw that he was jumping high. Then I found out they really are one of the tallest tribes, and the highest jumpers (without even raising their arms). Interestingly, this is a mating ritual, where the highest jumper wins the woman. I envy you, oz_ranger, for being there to capture this most colorful, popular tribe.
FIRST PLACE
I've been wanting to visit India's Holi Festival of vivid colors. Observed for more than two weeks, people celebrate on the streets throwing colored powder and water at one another, in a belief that the combination of the colors take all the sorrow away and make life itself more colorful. What an eye candy for photographers!
Congratulations to everyone, and to terrybowker, for the wonderful images.
