The submissions are every bit as beautiful as I had hoped. First, honorable mentions in no particular order:

Paul Dudley – if Waikiki beach was in Antarctica, this is how it would look

John de Freitas – for the creative eye and delicate presentation

Luxun 54 – for a beautiful and moody capture (of Jokurlsarlon?) in cold pastels

Markus Grompe – for a creative application of the rule of thirds

Jarek M for the eyes on ice

THE WINNERS ARE:

.
Third place goes to Alain Lestrade – for the elegant compositon and capturing the excitement of winter adventure

Second place goes to Gill K. for this futuristic photo of a winter ice. Absolute stunner, one of those photos where I think I wish I had an eye for abstracts....

Beauty is in the ice of the beholder – first place goes to Borderrose for this elegant capture of the classic winter sight

A big thanks to all the participants, and congratulations to the winners. Border Rose, over to you now ....

Thanks for the HM, good topic and many fine entries. [And, yes, my photo was taken at the Jökulsárlón Floating Icebergs, in Iceland!]
