Beginer bikini shots, learning experience.

Post Tue Aug 24, 2004 6:03 am

After family shots, animals and landscapes a friend asked me if I would take some shots of her "little sister" and sis's roommate in swimsuits. I had just bought a new lens so I figured , hey, why not. I'm always up for a learning experience.
I'm off and learning. A bit amateurish and a bright sunlit day was far from ideal.
The girls were very pleased. They got more than they paid for, considering I'm free. Exceedingly pleasant, willing models are a boon to a novice at this sort of thing.

Suggest strongly that with this sort of ongoing fortune that you go buy lottery ticket immediately

Seriously though, great shots. It's easy to get distracted by the subject matter, and you delivered some good shots in trouser-challenging conditions.

One suggestion I can think of

In bright sun light your best aid is a flash. I also find that this is the only time you should use a falsh but that is another story.
The flash would help eliminate the shades under her eyes and the nose would lokk more normal.

I have taken a lot of these kind of pictures on the beaches under very harsh lighting conditions. The best is to shoot in the shade but that is not allways possible. The flash (when mine decides to work) helps a lot

Keep it up it is the way to improve

As my mother always says - "jealousy will get you nowhere"

Take your camera go down to a beach and start shooting. From my experiance they line up for the shots -
BTW I always ask before.

Seriously though, in this day and age it wouldn't at all be surprising if my 'candid beach shooting' gets me a fresh serving of whoopass from a jealous husband/boyfriend.

I think I'll stick to my landscapes.

Props to you guys for pulling it off though.

If I may suggest a minor correction for next time. High heel open toed sandals (2"-4") would help accentuate the feet to the legs instead of giving a less flattering flat footed look. That's why the barefoot look is appropriate while lying on the towel, because the subject naturally points her toes, which is more pleasing to the eye than a straight 90 degree foot position.

Just my two cents worth.
