In fact, a polite request to cease and a suggestion to remove certain
things was respectfully done, and only met with the negative response
of "no can do." (that by the way, is a direct quote).
And that's most unfortunate. But if a civil and reasonable approach
does not work (and bad enough that one's conduct should even
reach that point) and if the owners or moderators are then put in
the most uncomfortable position of having to take direct action
themselves, then quite frankly, tough luck -- if someone creates
a disturbance, then they're basically flirting with the chance that
they'll get hit with sanctions, and in the real world, just a roll
of the dice about how far those sanctions will go.
So if you want to be outraged about something, be outraged about
Don's conduct in the first place, and the disturbance that's caused,
and the uncomfortable position that created for the owners or
moderators who are pretty much forced to respond to that.
It's not a matter of "burning the books" or simply "imprisoning
those who disagree with you", but PBase is a community, a microcosm
society if you will, and like any society, there are rules and
common sense etiquette, and if someone choose to be totally
self-centered and ignore all that stuff and in the process create
a disturbance, well geez, yeah absolutely, there are real life
consequences for that.
And you might not be thrill with that, but quite frankly, if you're
going to point any fingers of blame, it's not with moderators
and owners, but rather with Don himself.
So don't worry about it too much because my own guess is that
the no "book burning" parties are likely to start too soon; it's just
a bit of civility being restored to PBase. And again, if you want
to be pointing any fingers, point them at the fellow who's been
a disturbance to the peace.
