Hi,

I have two different treatments of a candid shot. Please let me know which you think is more effective. Thanks, Ellsworth Weaver

B&W winning

Thanks, I think you are in a majority. Most like the starkness of the B&W. I will also experiment more with Quadtones on other shots.

black & white. no contest. the other one is much weakened by the colour treatment

Ditch the border though. One of my pet hates is borders (especially those *-&6%ing dropshadow ones people are so keen on) - let the picture speak for itself

Make that 10 out of 11 - LOL

The B&W works with the name better "She Would Listen She Promised Herself "

I agree that the subject of your photo stands out better in the b&w version. But I find the orange, off-kilter framing to be overly distracting on both. Let the photo speak for itself.

I liked the Goldtone better because in the B&W version you have too many low key tones in that. The carpet is almost gone as are several other details that tend to show up better in the Goldtone. If you can achieve better contrast in the B&W version, I might be persuaded to change my vote.

One rule of thumb for B&W is that you should strive to include your whitest white and your blackest black. I find the B&W a little too dark.

I prefer the color version. The girl stands out enough in the shot to make the viewer focus on her. No need to overemphasize something when your point is already made. To me the B/W version is like writting all capital letters, adding three "!!!" and double underline it.
