Guiding the Focus of the Audience. What have you tried?

On this shot the colors of the deer were blending in with that of the winter forest. That's great for the deer's self-defence, but not so good for photography. By removing all the color from forest I was able to put more focus on the deer. I also cropped out a stray branch in the foreground that was stealing some attention.
