Hello NEWBIE Here

Post Tue Feb 15, 2005 3:10 pm

Hi guys and gals,

Just wanted to say hello to the forum, I'm familiar with PBase forums but this is structured slightly different, no section for new members.

I havent yet got a digital camera but have been having a good look around the forum for advice.

My two choices appear to be common topic of discussion, the EOS300D and D70....I wont ask for your opinions as there are lots on here already

I am quite new to digital photography (apart from a point and shoot affair) so may pop on to ask questions from time to time.

Anyway thats me saying hello now im off  to read some more and look at some fantastic pictures you have all taken

I have the Canon 300D Digital Rebel EOS and I love it. Must warn you though, the buying of glass for it can get expensive. Suggest you look carefully at used lenses around eBay and locally.

Glass I have now includes (all Canon):

10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5
35 mm f/2.0
50 mm f/1.8
100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS L series

See, it gets to be a disease. *G*

If I were to buy a new dslr right now, it would be the Canon 20D.

Whatever you choose, shoot lots, crop well, throw out lots, and put up your best here.

Regards,
Ellsworth

Welcome to the group. As previously stated
shoot lots, crop well, throw out lots, and put up your best here.

You don't say if you are a former film shooting addict. But, I think one of the greatest thing is taking lots of shots and editing. Find something interesting, shoot from lots of angles, move in close, shoot more, move in closer, shoot more. Of course, only if it is safe to get closer. Experiment, enjoy and send the BAD shots and we all make them to the void.

Some folks would say you only learn from your mistakes and practice. Digital cameras make it super easy to ditch the mistakes and keep shooting. Good luck.--rene
PS: I tried several times yesterday to post this message, but the system kept freezing.

That constitutes mental cruelty and is not in the spirit of PBase. But since you mention it see: http://www.eos-magazine.com

I think your approach is absolutely correct. There’ll always a new gismo on the horizon or some reason to delay. Buy what you can when you can and get involved! Life’s too short for prevarication.

I think that's procrastination, but you should avoid bending the truth too.

I do agree, as soon as you buy something, the next best thing will appear, but you are having so much fun in the mean time.--Rene
