105th Show & Tell competition: "What's happening" - WINNER

Post Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:36 pm

It's my own fault. Shoud have known that judging on the entries to a competition with the theme "What's happening?" wasn't going to be easy. Still, what I hoped for did happen: you have interpreted the theme in many different ways and that's great. Variety is the spice of life. In the end my judgement proved to be very personal: those pictures that indeed made me wonder what's happening remained after the first selection. Within that group I judged on composition and expressiveness mainly. So here it goes (BTW all images can and derserve to be clicked on for full size versions):

honourable mentions:

Image
Those who go swinging on a deadly rocket will be put behind bars

Image
Pharaohs visit the container terminus

Image
Bringing the monument alive

Image
London is testing more imaginative Olympic facilities for the 2012 Games

Image
She asks if you want to marry her....

Image
I have always wanted to do this..... to my dentist

Image
Art turns the world upside down

Image
Uniting the real and imagined!

This photo by Jaac ends in the third place:

Brushing your teeth while grandaddy is looking into his crystal ball

The second place is for this photo by Malcom Niekirk:

Coudn't find Spongebob on the ocean floor and heading home disappointedly

But the winner has to be Markus Grompe with this image:
Image
Police think that the shot was fired from the other side of the window, but the window cleaner claims he saw nothing...
A super image in every way!

Thanks everybody for sharing your imagination! It has been an honour to host this edition of the S&T competition.

So it's up to you now Markus for the 106th edition. Good luck!

Best,
Jeroen

Thank you, Jeroen, for having me honourably mentioned. The choices have not been easy this time, and I think, you made a good job. Thank you again for the intriguing topic and your choices! Claudia

Thank you for looking at my photos and for the 2 honourable mentions! I was pleasantly pleased that the horse dentistry shot was considered. The street artist is one of my fave shots and one of the few shots with major editing...at least major for me as I usually just crop and do minor tweaking to contrast and color.

I love the winner's shot! Still trying to figure out what was going on. Nice selection of other places and HMs. Congrats to all.

Many thanks for hosting and judging this Jeroen, and for placing my image. It came at the end of an afternoon when I had been standing ankle-deep in liquid mud, so it's nice to think that my efforts are appreciated.
