198th Show & Tell Competition: Catch - WINNER

Post Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:33 pm

Thanks to all of you for your entries! Here are the “Honorable Mentions” in order of entry:

Image
By Sandi Whitteker of San Diego
The solarisation effect is interesting, and the subject's expression pushed home the point.

Image
By Erich Mangl of Austria
A cute variation of the theme "Catch". I suspect the man had not realised his long catch.

Image
By Terry Bowker of Chicago
This is an image of a vanishing trade in modern Hong Kong. And the image was appropriately presented in black&white.

Image
By Dennis Camp of Cincinnati
A near silhouette with interesting positioning of the sun close to the rod tip. How we wish the image could include a fish struggling for its freedom.

Image
By Nick Vivian of England
This image tickled me a lot. It was as if the fish were caught talking ! The reflections made it even more interesting. I would have liked it much more if the eyes had looked sharper, and the reflection ended just a wee bit short at the bottom. Since this was a posed shot, sufficient reflective surface should have been prepared before pressing the trigger.

Third Place

Image
By Markus Grompe of United States
One of the ultimate chase events where cyclists attempt to overtake each other in a velodrome. The shape of the venue probably lent itself well for such a diagonal composition. And the cyclists seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Second Place

Image
By Jojie Alcantara of Davao City, Philippines
I like Jojie's use of wide-angle lenses to bring out the drama in her shots. Her first submission of a someone hauling a large fish on his shoulders was superb, but this image has a better story as it portrays an idea of the fisherman catching his own reflection.

First Place

Image
By Juan Leon of Spain
The post-processing was nicely done to project the character of the subject. The composition is perfect, and the subject's eye is unblocked. It was probably a momentous shot as the subject had to squeeze through an opening for its prized catch!

Thanks for choosing my fisherman entry as 2nd place. Honored to be chosen among a fine gallery of "good catch". Looking forward to the next theme. Congrats all! :D
