Happy New Year, everyone! I thought of the Wow Factor as a theme, because it always comes up in my workshops. I tell my students to always look for a wow factor in their capture. So they ask me what is it exactly. I tell them it has something to do with emotions. A powerful image, more than the composition itself, often pulls you in through strong feelings and different interpretation of the message, and affects you in varied ways. It stirs up something in you from awe, amazement, sympathy, happiness, to anger and sadness. The image lingers long after you have viewed it. It's what every photojournalist like me aspire for.
I will be taking notes on how I feel about your image as a viewer. I am very excited about what I am about to see from you. Good luck and have fun!
Here are samples of strong images I have pulled off so far (but the "wowness" is always subjective, so it may or may not affect you). Best viewed if clicked large.
Here's to a wonderful, more meaningful and fruitful New Year to all of us! And that those gears would drop prices! ~~Jojie
