Comments feature subpar

Post Fri Aug 08, 2003 6:03 pm

I don't find the Comments feature useful. Almost all website comments features offered at various sites notify the site owner if a visitor has left a comment. Otherwise, how would the owner know about comment unless s/he viewed every single screen on the site?

Are there other ways that pbasers are dealing w. the comments feature?

Richard,

Go to your profile page:
http://www.pbase.com/richards1052/profile

You should see a link that says 'View Your Forum'. It will list every comment made on any of your photos or galleries in chronological order.

It took me a while to figure this out as well.

Greg: Whadaya know?? Thanks so much for helping me out of my morass of ignorance.

Another thing that bugs me a bit about the comment forum is that it identifies the image commented upon by an image ID #. What does this number correspond to & how can I locate the image so I can know what the commenter is commenting upon??

Just click on the image number where it says 'Comments for image ########' and it takes you to the picture that got the comment.

the comment system is in the middle of an upgrade that will include many requested features.

currently in the middle of a wide code rewrite to improve efficiency which will mean faster page loading and allow certain other features to be possible at all.

Slug - maybe it would bea great idea to mention in one sentence or two what exactly you might be working on. If you don't want to do it in the front page of pbase, you can link from the front page to some page inside. You may even want to show it only to the logged in (or even paying) customers. That way you can:

- Keep people updated on what is going on (and that you are not partying in Honolulu with our money :))
- People will have a better idea what to expect and will not panic when something starts to break once in a while.

USing the comments feature

Thanks for letting me know that the photo ID number in the Profile Forum also is a link to the photo commented upon. I had no idea. I really think Comments needs more specific usage instructions for relative newbies like me. I was glad to hear that Slug is working on an upgrade. That's exciting to hear.

OK. Why do I have comments on specific images throughout my galleries but only a few of the recent ones show up in view forum? I have expanded and viewed topic but only the recent comments are visible. HelP!!
